Those that grew up in the era of Mister Rogers—which is just about all of us, given the show’s three-decade run—were taught to associate miniature, whimsical neighborhoods with soothing songs and cozy sweaters.

But today’s children are more prone to associate them with the tilt-shift effects built into their cameras and smartphones.

For the uninitiated, tilt-shift footage is a growing genre in our library that uses a specialty lens (or this After Effects Template) to isolate focus well beyond the capabilities of aperture alone. As seen below, the effect can produce an illusion that makes full-sized objects appear miniaturized due to the shift in detail and perspective.
