If you’re anything like me, you just spent the last two hours drooling over your computer as you watched live blogs of the “Let’s Talk iPhone” event at Apple’s headquarters in California. Though the presentation started slow, it did not disappoint in the end with the introduction of the iPhone 4s. This new phone, though practically identical to the iPhone 4 on the outside, is full of new features and new technology that will fill any Apple enthusiast’s heart with pure joy. Here’s a look at some of the new features that will make an impact on the audio/visual world.
The Camera App
Did you know that the iPhone 4 camera is the most popular camera used on Flickr? Well, now you do! And there’s no doubt that will soon be replaced with the iPhone 4s camera in a short span of time.
The Camera App itself has been improved, making it easier to get to and easier to take a picture. Now instead of stumbling to find the camera app button, you can just click the home button twice to be taken directly to the camera viewer. To snap a picture, you can now use the volume up button as well! These improvements will make it easier to take pictures on the fly!
The new iPhone 4s will feature an 8 mega pixel camera. This means it will offer 60% more pixels than the already existing iPhone 4. But as we all know, mega pixels doesn’t always mean it is a better camera. Luckily, Apple knows that too, so they made plenty of other developments to improve the iPhone 4s camera. There is better backside illumination, so the camera can perceive 73% more light. It is also 33% faster at capturing a picture than the iPhone 4 and has a five-element lens. As a result, pictures will be 30% more sharper and you can shoot with f/2.4 aperature! All of this, plus the new Image Signal Processor (ISP) will allow for face detection and 26% better auto white balance.
What does this all mean? That tiny camera on the iPhone 4s will be able to easily compete with any point and shoot camera you may currently own. The only drawback is the actual lens size. It is still small and will still have a hard time competing with a camera with an impressive optical zoom.
The new iPhone 4s will be able to capture video at 1080p. Really, what more could you want from such a tiny device? The video recording feature also has improved Video Image Stabilization for smoother shots.
Overall, not a huge quantity of improvements with Video Recording, but the 1080p resolution is pretty huge.
