As our last post mentioned, this back to school season we’re taking a look at some of the best colleges and universities for film and video production studies. Today we are focusing on public schools. These types of institutions are usually bigger and can be a much more affordable option for students compared to private schools. Here’s a list of three highly acclaimed public schools that offer great programs in film or video production.


Missouri University

Missouri University, better known as “Mizzou”, is known for their specifically for their journalism program. Being on the cutting edge of journalism trends and technology, Mizzou offers a wide array of majors to fit any interest. If you’re looking to get into the broadcast side of video production, Missouri would be a great option for you.

Michigan State

Michigan State offers a degree in Film Studies through their English department. This unique combination of history, theory and production creates a one of a kind learning experience in of of the country’s most recognizable state schools. If you’re looking specifically to find a program where you’ll be learning technical skills, this may not be the best program for you. But if you’re interested in writing films and studying how they impact culture, Michigan State may be able to provide the perfect environment for your studies.

Florida State University

FSU has an entire college devoted to motion picture arts. Whether you want to focus on writing, production, theory or film history, this university is sure to have a program for you. They just recently added an Animation and Digital Arts degree available at their West Palm Beach campus. Not only will you be getting an award winning, state funded education, but you’ll also be soaking up the Florida sun. What more could you want?
