Behind the Scenes: Reimagining BBC’s Sherlock Intro Using Stock Footage

In anticipation of BBC’s Victorian Sherlock Christmas special airing this January, we’re streaming a special of our own—in which we recreate the show’s iconic title sequence using exclusively stock footage.

See below for our stock intro, made entirely with royalty-free assets from our library:

How we did it was rather elementary once we matched the footage—just a bit of layering and some tilt-shift After Effects templates—but we’ve included a walkthrough tutorial on the full process and techniques so you don’t have to rely on deduction alone.

VideoBlocks subscribers, of course, can download the footage we used in our Sherlock-inspired project bin, which has all the assets you need to make your own stock tribute (barring, unfortunately, Benedict Cumberbatch).
